There are great variety of ports on the dv5t: VGA, Ethernet, HDMI, eSATA/USB combo, USB, Firewire, ExpressCard. An eSATA support is basically an external Serial ATA port for an ultra-fast connection to external hard drives. The dv5t’s HDMI port is great for connecting to external HDTVs, as it can transmit both digital video and surround sound audio. The 802.11b/g card in the HP dv5t is made by Broadcom. The optional built-in Bluetooth works well with my external Bluetooth mouse. The built-in webcam is of average quality, but then again not much can be expected from a built-in webcam. HP dv5t features two Altec Lansing stereo speakers. These speakers are a definite step up from standard generic notebook speakers in terms of sound quality. The mid-range (vocals) and highs are quite good for a laptops. Voices come through clear.

This laptops only has 2 USB ports, where even virtually all laptops come with 3 USB ports.

The touchpad surface utilizes the same matte texture with just a hint of metal flake that is used on the palm rest surface. The touchpad is nice and responsive. The absence of both the S-video port and the HDMI port means that this laptops won’t be 100 percent friendly with all external displays used for presentations. This might indeed be a serious problem for traveling business professionals who never know exactly what type of video-out port they’ll need for their next business presentation. The addition of FireWire, 4 USB ports, a media card reader, a headphone jack, microphone jack, ExpressCard slot and Ethernet port you’re well equipped in terms of ports. The speaker quality was on par with laptops of this size and price range. The stereo speakers on the Dell Vostro 1510 are located on either side of the keyboard and produces relatively shallow sound. You can get the volume loud without much distortion. Both dell laptops speakers are positioned perfectly for directing sound up and towards the user.

Dell Studio 17 would be even more impressive when paired with the optional Blue-ray drive for High Definition movies. Dell laptops screen looks beautiful from straight on. The high-resolution display panels used in Dell laptops usually tend to be better than the lower-resolution. The horizontal viewing angles are great. Upper vertical viewing angles are good. The Dell Dock is a unique visual interface similar to the Dock in Apple’s Mac OS X. The primary benefit of this application is that it helps you keep your desktop free of clutter and makes using Vista a little more user friendly.

Slot loading drives don’t like small DVDs or CDs. The drive in the Dell Studio 15 is extremely quiet for a slot-loading.
